Donuts

This morning, after taking my car in to be serviced, I was in the mood for donuts since we had not had them in a very long time. Conveniently, a Dunkin Donuts is on the way home. Both kids were psyched to get donuts for breakfast. They patiently waited in the long line to order their Strawberry-Iced Glazed Donuts with Sprinkles. They then ran to the car where I promised that I would give them the donuts so that they could eat them on the way home. Halfway home, Hayes said, "No more donut," and proceeded to hand me the donut immediately to our left. Eleanor kept quiet during this hand-off. When we got home, I noticed Eleanor's donut wrapped up in the car and I reminded her to get it out. She obeyed and brought it right into the kitchen when it still sits. As you can see below, it looks like it is neatly wrapped up. Is it being saved for later? Did she have a bite of it and decide she did not like it? We will never know. I might leave it there to see how long it takes for her to notice it . . . though Baxter might find it first and eat it, napkin and all.

New Crocs

Yesterday, I bought Hayes some new blue Crocs for the summer. (I did not dare pick out a pair for Eleanor since she had not already declared to me her color choice.) I've never seen him so eager to show something off. This morning, when we put them on for the first time, he was so excited that he stated, "I love my new Crocs. I can't wait to show them to everyone. . . Santa Claus, the reindeer, the Easter Bunny, Grandmommy and Granddaddy, Mimi and Papa . . . "

That music's giving me a headache!

Car rides with the kids are the ideal forum for them to argue. All they do is fight over whose music we get to listen to. Each kid has two CDs in the player that they like: Eleanor has her friend Ansley Oakes's birthday CD full of Princess songs and the Wizard of Oz soundtrack; Hayes has his "Old MacDonald" CD and his favorite, Justin Timberlake's Sex/Lovesounds CD which he has affectionately named "Dad's music". (Long story with this one. . . I got tired of listening to the nursery rhymes day-in and and day-out and had recently bought the JT album that I was dying to listen to. The kids would not listen to it if it was mine but they would agree to play it if it was Dad's (even though he was rarely present to listen). In case you need a reminder, toddler logic is not logical. You've got to learn to beat them at their own game!) Anyway, one day home from school, we were listening to JT since it was Hayes's turn and Eleanor stated loudly and clearly for anyone who cared to hear," This music is giving me a headache!" Well, wouldn't you know it that the next day, in the morning when it was E's turn to pick and play Ansley's CD, Hayes thought for a few seconds and then declared, "I don't want this music. I want Daddy's music. This music is giving me a headache." I had to chuckle :-)
